Mimicry is an art: Kalyan Banerjee refuses to apologise

Kolkata, 20 December: The incident of making fun of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Parliament complex has now taken a political form. From PM Modi to President Droupadi Murmu have called this incident unfortunate.

A police complaint has also been lodged against TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee who made fun of the Vice President. But Kalyan Banerjee flatly refused to apologise calling mimicry an art.

“I don”t know why Dhankhar Saheb took it upon himself, PM Modi himself has made such jokes several times during the proceedings between 2014 to 2019,” he said.

The issue of insulting Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Parliament premises is continuously gaining momentum. The incident, which came to light on Tuesday afternoon, has started a political controversy.

MPs suspended from Lok Sabha proceedings were protesting in the Parliament premises. During this, Kalyan Banerjee started mimicking Dhankhar while Rahul Gandhi was shooting this entire incident.

The mimicry act of the TMC MP has gone viral on social media. The BJP has termed this incident as unfortunate. At the same time, PM Modi expressed grief over this incident.

President Murmu also expressed grief over this incident and said that such incidents are not good for maintaining parliamentary decorum.

Kalyan Banerjee, in an interview, said, ”Mimicry is an art, which I showed. I don’t know why Dhankhar Saheb took it upon himself. If it is really so, then does he behave like this inside the Rajya Sabha” He is my senior. We both have been in the same profession. We know that one should not make fun of anyone.”
