New Delhi, 14 Jan: Former union Minister Milind Deora has left the Congress party and joined the Shiv Sena, which is run by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. “I have resigned from the primary membership of Congress, bringing an end to my family’s 55-year affiliation with the party,” he said on X (previously Twitter).

“I am grateful to all leaders, colleagues, and karyakartas for their consistent support over the years,” he said.

“Today marks the end of a key period in my political career. I have resigned as a main member of @INCIndia, bringing an end to my family’s 55-year history with the party,” he stated.

Speaking to reporters at his Mumbai residence, Milind Deora stated that he left Congress to pursue development.

“I’m going to travel on the path of growth and development,” Deora remarked as he left his house with wife Pooja to worship at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi. Deora, the son of Congress leader Murli Deora, previously won the Mumbai South seat in 2004 and 2009. He finished as the first runner-up in the succeeding elections in 2014 and 2019 to Shiv Sena (undivided) leader Arvind Sawant.

He recently voiced his anger with the Uddhav Thackeray group staking claim to the Mumbai South seat. The opposition alliance includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), which is led by Uddhav Thackeray. In response to Milind Deora’s resignation from the party, Congress national secretary remembered how his father, Murli Deora, had friends in various political parties but always supported the Grand Old Party.
