Manipur violence: HM speaks to CM Biren Singh; RAF airlifted

New Delhi, 03 May: Home Minister Amit Shah held talks with Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday regarding the violence that broke out during the tribal agitation in Manipur.

Sources say that the Central Government is keeping an eye on the situation in Manipur. In this sequence, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Chief Minister of Manipur today. A Rapid Action Force (RAF) has also been sent by the Center to control the violence there.

According to information, Army and Assam Rifles personnel have already been deployed at sensitive places in view of the violence in the state.

Regarding the violence in Manipur, the state’s Chief Minister Biren Singh said that incidents of clashes and vandalism have come to the fore at some places in the last 24 hours. These incidents happened because of the prevailing misunderstanding between the two sections. The state government is monitoring the situation. All necessary steps are being taken to control it.

It is noteworthy that during the tribal agitation in Manipur, violence broke out in several districts of the state on Wednesday, after which the state government has suspended internet services for the next five days. Apart from this, curfew has been imposed in Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts.

The rally was organised on May 3, to protest against the demand that the Meitei community be included in the ST category in the state.
