New Delhi, 09 February: Describing the language and behaviour of the Opposition members in the Rajya Sabha as disappointing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the country listens carefully to what is said in the House.

“Some MPs are defaming the House. I want to remind everyone that the more mud you throw, the more the lotus will bloom,” he said.

Modi was replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha amid sloganeering by MPs. On the Adani controversy, the Opposition members demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee inquiry. Modi took a jibe at the protesting members, saying their actions help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) move forward.

He said, ?Many intellectuals have given direction to the country from this House in the past decades. Whatever happens in this country, the country listens to it very seriously. It is unfortunate that the behaviour and speech of some people are disappointing not only to the House but also to the country. I would say this to those with this attitude – He had mud, and I had gulal. The more mud you toss, the more the lotus will bloom.”

Accusing the Congress of neglecting development, the Prime Minister said that the party may have intended to build the foundation as claimed by Kharge but they only dug potholes and obstructed development during their tenure. Due to this, the country lost six decades, while the smaller countries progressed.

He said that mere expression of intent does not work, what matters is the speed, direction and outcome of the development. He further said, ?For 60 years, the Congress family had made potholes only. It may not be their intention. But, they did. When they had wasted six decades by digging pits, even the smallest countries of the world were touching the heights of success.”

The Prime Minister said that the policies of our government are focused on finding lasting solutions to the issues facing the country. Till 2014, more than half of the population was without banking facilities, while 48 crore accounts have been opened in the last nine years.

Modi said, ?Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile? This tri-force has led to ?27 lakh crores going directly to the accounts of stakeholders through DBT in the last few years. Due to this, more than ?2 lakh crore, which could have gone into the hands of an eco-system, were saved. Now those who could not get this money, it is natural for them to shout.”
