Amethi, 3 April: Union Minister Smriti Irani has become an Amethi voter, fulfilling a pledge she made to the people of the seat to build familial links.

According to the MP’s representative, Vijay Gupta, Irani sought for voter registration after purchasing a home in Medan Mawai hamlet in Gauriganj. He confirmed that she is now a village voter.

Irani believes Amethi to be her family. He stated that she has constructed her residence here so that she may live among the Amethi family. With the house’s completion, she began the process of registering as an Amethi voter.

Gupta stated that all processes have now been fulfilled. Irani, union Minister for Women, Child Development, and Minority Welfare, has registered to vote at booth 347 in Medan Mawai village, Gauriganj assembly seat, which is part of the Amethi parliamentary constituency.

Irani moved into her freshly constructed house in Maidan Mawai village on February 22, 2024. The BJP has declared Irani as the party’s candidate for the seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Irani produced a significant upset in 2019 when she defeated former Congress president Rahul Gandhi by a margin of around 55000 votes. So yet, Congress has not declared a candidate for Amethi. It is unclear whether Rahul Gandhi would run for election from a seat. The fifth phase of polling in Amethi is scheduled on May 20.
