Liquor prices set to rise as UP hikes licence fees

Lucknow, 29 Jan: The UP government raised the licencing costs for liquor stores throughout the state for the upcoming fiscal year on Saturday. Due to provisions in the excise policy, the prices of domestic and premium foreign-made liquors, as well as beer, are likely to increase.

The price each bottle might be increased from Rs 5 to 10. The licencing price for wine and beer outlets has been raised by 10% in the Excise Policy 2023-24. The State Government has set a goal of Rs 45,000 crore in Excise Department income for the next fiscal year. This is an increase of Rrs 5,000 crore over last year.

The model shop licencing price has been raised from ?2 lakh to ?3 lakh. Licenses for country, foreign liquor, beer, cannabis businesses, and model shops will also be renewed. The processing and renewal fees for its application have also increased. Aside from that, the licencing cost and godown security have been raised. Master warehouse registration and renewal fees have also increased. The licencing price for hotels, restaurants, and clubs located inside Noida’s authority, the Municipal Corporations of Lucknow and Ghaziabad, and up to five kilometres from its boundary has also been raised. The Quota (MGQ) of country liquor stores has been increased by 10%. Foreign beer will be more expensive now that the permission charge has been raised to ?175 per litre.
