Kanpur, 21 July: Police are preparing to invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against the two accused that include Hayat Zafar Hashmi, the main suspect in the June 3 violence and the national head of the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Fans Association, and his suspected financier Mukhtar Baba.

Meanwhile, Hayat’s case has been forwarded to the district magistrate’s office for further action.

DCP Pramod Kumar, who is in charge of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), stated that formalities are being carried out to bring the accused of the June 3 incident, primarily Hayat Zafar Hashmi and Mukhtar Baba, under the NSA. Documents invoking NSA against Hayat Zafar Hashmi have already been drafted and forwarded to the DM office for further action.

DCP told, action will be done against Hayat under NSA once it is signed by the DM,” he continued. According to police sources, NSA may be imposed only after the offender has submitted a bail application in court.

“The lower court has denied Hayat Zafar’s bail application here. We sought legal advice on this, and it was determined that even if the bail application is denied, the NSA can be imposed on the accused,” said further sources.

The DCP further stated that if NSA is invoked against Hayat, the file of Mukhtar Baba and others for imposing NSA will be given to the DM office.
