Chitrakoot, 30 July: According to authorities, a murder case has been filed against 13 police personnel, including a former superintendent of police, in connection with an alleged staged encounter.

“The FIR was lodged at the Bahilpurva police station as per a special court order,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shailendra Kumar Rai on Saturday. The order was issued on Thursday while hearing a plea by a woman, Nathunia, who alleged that her husband Bhalchandra was picked up by a police team on March 31, 2021 and killed in a fake encounter. Nathunia had informed the police about this, but because they did not act on her allegation, she filed a court case, according to her lawyer, Rajendra Yadav.

The FIR was filed in response to a court order and named the then-SP Ankit Mittal, sub-inspectors Amit Kumar, Santosh Kumar, Shravan Kumar Singh, and Anil Kumar Sahu and others.

According to the officer, the accused have been charged under IPC sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily inflicting pain), 364 (kidnapping), and 396 (dacoity), among others. He went on to say that an inquiry had been launched.
