Indore, 8 December: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) staff sealed 13 shops built on the land of Waqf Board in Javra Compound of the city on Friday.
The corporation has to collect property tax of about Rs 1 crore 54 lakh on this property from the Waqf Board. Despite repeated notices, the Waqf Board is not collecting the said property tax.
When the Municipal Corporation team reached the spot on Friday, the shopkeepers told that they regularly pay thousands of rupees as rent to the Waqf Board. It is not their responsibility to collect property tax. If the owner of the property is the Waqf Board, then he will deposit the property tax. On this the corporation team sealed the shops. There are many famous shops, car garages etc. on this Waqf Board land located in Javra Compound.
Municipal Corporation’s Assistant Revenue Officer Shailesh Kumar said that the Waqf Board has about 15 thousand square feet of land. Apart from 13 shops, many residential houses are also built on this land. Even before this, the Municipal Corporation had issued notices to the Waqf Board for depositing property tax.
Officer told that there was a need for action in March 2023 also, but at that time the Waqf Board had taken time to deposit the outstanding property tax of Rs 1 lakh in the corporation’s account. Waqf Board has not paid property tax for years. At present the outstanding property tax has reached around Rs 1 crore 54 lakh. The above action has been taken to recover the same.
