Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh), October 21: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today began the journey of the ambitious human space flight programme ‘Gaganyaan’ with the first ‘Crew Module’ test through the launch of its single-stage liquid rocket at around 10 a.m.
As per the ISRO, this test has been done to ensure the safety of the astronauts.
ISRO aims to send humans into space from a 400-kilometre-low Earth orbit for the three-day Gaganyaan mission and bring them back to Earth safely. Abort-1 (TV-D1) was launched from the first launch pad of ISRO’s spaceport.
Its success will set a global stage for unmanned space missions. With this, the first Gaganyaan programme with Indian astronauts will begin. It is expected to start in 2025. It has a crew interface, a life support system, avionics, and a deceleration system.
It is also designed for re-entry to ensure crew safety during descent and landing.
