New York, 04 July: Britain has demanded that India should be made a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Supporting the expansion of the UNSC, Britain supported permanent membership for India, Japan, Germany, Brazil, and some African countries.

Ten countries are made non-permanent members of the UNSC for two years on rotation basis. The demand for including India as a permanent member is increasing continuously.

British permanent member of the UNSC, Barbara Woodward said that Britain wants the expansion of the Council to include India, Germany, Japan, Brazil, and Africa?s representation.

British Foreign Affairs Minister James Cleverly made a similar statement last week. Barbara said that India and Brazil represent a huge population and are fast-growing economies. Compared to 1945 their influence has drastically improved.

UNSC has only five permanent members ? USA, China, France, Britain, and Russia.
