India rejects US threat on S-400 supply from Russia

New Delhi, 08 January: India on Friday rejected a US sanctions threat regarding acquiring the S-400 missile defense shield from Russia.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said in a press conference on Friday that India has special strategic relations with Russia. India takes appropriate decisions according to its national interests and security requirements.

It is noteworthy that the US Parliament and the outgoing US Ambassador to New Delhi, Ken Juster, commented on India’s attempt to acquire the S-400.

The issue of imposing sanctions against India was also raised in the US Parliament. Turki has also recently purchased this system from Russia. The US has recently imposed sanctions on Turkey on this.

According to defense sources, India may get the first shipment of the S-400 system this year. Through this state-of-the-art missile defense system, India will gain a strategic edge not only against Pakistan but also against China.

However, India has urged Russia to supply this defense system in the context of a military standoff with China in eastern Ladakh.
