New Delhi, March 27: India has expressed strong objection to the comments of a US State Department spokesperson on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor scam case.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday saying that “we strongly object to the comments of the US State Department spokesperson regarding some legal proceedings in India”.

The ministry said that diplomacy requires countries to respect the sovereignty and internal affairs of others. This responsibility is even greater in the case of fellow democracies. Otherwise it may set an unhealthy precedent.

The statement said India’s legal processes are based on an independent judiciary, committed to objective and timely results. It is unfair to cast blame on him.
