New Delhi, 26 January: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya launched the world’s first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine, Incovac, on Thursday in the presence of union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge) Dr Jitendra Singh. It has been developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited with the assistance of PSU Biotechnology Industry Research.

Mandaviya said that being the world’s first intranasal Covid-19 vaccine, it is a shining example of the call for self-reliant India. “India’s vaccine manufacturing and innovation capability are appreciated across the world. We have made a mark in producing quality and affordable medicines,” he said.

Dr Jitendra Singh said that India has played a leading role in developing vaccines and medicines for common diseases in the developing world.

It is noteworthy that INCOVAK is a nasal vaccine. That is, no injection will be given for this. It will be just a drop put in the nose and you will be safe. INCOVAK is the world’s first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine to be approved as a primary two-dose and a booster dose.
