Lucknow, 08 Sept: In Uttar Pradesh, the score is INDIA 1, NDA 0. Despite employing all of its power and resources, as well as Hindutva and caste considerations, the Bharatiya Janata Party has lost the Ghosi assembly by-poll election in the state, as the Samajwadi Party takes an unassailable lead.

This is not just a boost for the INDIA bloc of Opposition parties, and SP president Akhilesh Yadav in particular, but also a big embarrassment for BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The struggle was between the INDIA bloc and the NDA.

The Congress did not nominate anyone but backed the SP candidate. The Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party did not run in the by-election, keeping its posture of publicly opposing both the NDA and INDIA.

“Ghosi did not make the candidate of the SP victorious, but of the INDIA alliance, and this will be the result in the future,” Akhilesh Yadav stated in a congratulations message to Ghosi voters. “This is a victory for positive politics and a defeat for communal, negative politics.”

Yadav claimed that the Ghosi by-election outcome demonstrated the efficacy of the party’s new anti-BJP strategy. “Team INDIA hai, aur PDA (Pichda Dalit Alpsankhyak) rajneeti,” he explained.

Sudhakar Singh, a two-time former MLA from the SP, appears to be on track to defeat BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan in Ghosi. According to the Election Commission of India, Singh all set to defeat Chauhan by almost a lakh votes.
