Lucknow, 19 May : The Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government have reached an agreement to postpone the intended scientific survey of ‘Shivling’ for the time being.

However, the move comes after the Apex Court on Friday postponed the ‘scientific assessment’, including carbon dating of a ‘Shivling’ purported to have been discovered at the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi during a videographic survey last year.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice KV Viswanathan stated that the ramifications of the Allahabad high court ruling allowing carbon dating of the “Shivling” warrant additional examination and that all parties “must tread carefully.”

It further said that the implementation of the order’s orders will be postponed until the next date of hearing.
