Bahraich, October 1: After killing two teenagers by chopping them with an axe, a farmer committed suicide by setting his house on fire along with his wife and two daughters in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Six people died in this incident.

Apart from this, four cattle also died in the burning. Fire tenders and police reached the spot and controlled the fire.

District Magistrate (DM) Akshay Tripathi, SP RN Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sadar Pooja Chaudhary and Circle Officer (CO) Mahsi reached the spot along with other forces and investigated the matter. DIG of Devipatan division Amit Pathak also inspected the spot.

SP RN Singh stated that Vijay Maurya, a farmer living in Nindupurwa Tepraha village in the Ramgaon police station area, supported his wife and two daughters through farming. Vijay’s eldest daughter is married, and due to differences with his two older brothers, he was living with a different family.

The SP stated that during the probe, it was discovered that on Wednesday, farmer Vijay had called three village boys, Suraj Yadav (14), Sunny Verma (13), and Kishan, to help him chop garlic. The three chopped garlic for an hour. Afterward, he sent Kishan to another location to cut a branch. Vijay then hacked Suraj and Sunny to death with an axe. He then took his wife and daughters to another room and took his cattle with him. He then locked the door from inside and set it on fire. He also burned his tractor beforehand.

According to the police officer when people nearby heard the screams, they rushed to the scene and found the blood-soaked bodies of two young men lying there, and screams were coming from the room where the fire had started. Villagers attempted to extinguish the fire, but seeing the intensity of the fire, no one dared to do so. The fire brigade was then informed. Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade, along with local police, arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze. The charred bodies of Vijay (40), his wife Dhiraj (35), daughters Tedwa (8) and Chutki (6) were recovered from the room. The carcasses of four cattle were also found.

The Superintendent of Police stated that information about the incident has been obtained from villagers. It appears Vijay had already made up his mind to kill his family, but why he killed the two boys remains a major question. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and the case is under investigation.
