“Election King” Dr K Padmarajan files nomination papers for the 240th time!

Bengaluru, 28 March: Dr.K.Padmarajan popularly known as the “Election King” filed his nomination papers as an Independent candidate, his 240th nomination on Thursday for Thrissur Lok Sabha MP elections in Kerala.

He submitted his nomination papers to V.R. Krishna Teja, the returning officer.

Suresh Gopi, veteran Malayalam actor is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate here.

Penchant for filing nomination: K Padmarajan, 65 is basically a Malayali settled in Metttur of Tamil Nadu owning a tyre repair shop and has developed a penchant for contesting elections from 1988. Interestingly, winning the elections is not his agenda at all. He enjoys only in contesting and is least bothered about reaching the victory tables. He has lost 238 times so far and is contesting from Dharmapuri and Thrissur Lok Sabha constituencies for the 2024 Parliamentary polls.

One crore expenditure so far: For being a Homeopathic practitioner K Padmarajan is also known as a doctor and has entered the Limca Book of Records for contesting a record number times. Presently, he has paid Rs 25,000/- as security deposit in Dharmapuri and Thrissur Lok Sabha constituencies. Going by the number of elections he has unsuccessfully contested and thereby the expenditure incurred, his investment into the good for nothing elections might have exceeded Rs One crore!

Highest votes in hometown: The highest number of votes polled by Dr K Padmarajan so far was 6,273 in his hometown Mettur during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2011. Unlike all contestants for any polls winning is not to be found in his wildest dreams for he triumphs in being known as the world’s biggest election loser. He has lost elections across the country in Assembly, Council, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and to the positions of Speaker, Chairman, Vice President and President of the nation!

Victory in participating: He proudly proclaims that for him victory is in taking part in the elections and as he is sure of his defeat he also takes it to his stride happily. Dr K Padmarajan is least bothered about the tantrums being made against him for having developed the habit of contesting incessantly.

Role model in creating awareness: Dr K Padmarajan proudly proclaims-“Among all the jobs, fighting elections is the most important one. Many people shy away to come forward to contest. On the other hand, I want to be a role model in creating awareness and also maintain detailed records of the nomination papers, and identity cards of each failed bid apart from laminating and safe keeping”.
