Lucknow, December 3: An elderly woman was murdered late Tuesday night in the Jankipuram police station area of โโLucknow. Preliminary investigations suggest the murder was done for resisting robbery. The deceased has been identified as Neelma Srivastava (74), a resident of Yashoda Puram Sector I, the Lucknow police said.
According to the neighbors, they saw the door of the house open on Wednesday morning and went inside. Upon reaching inside, they were alarmed to see the elderly woman’s body lying on the ground and immediately informed the police by calling 112. Police arrived at the scene and found the body in a room behind the house. There were marks of injury and pressure on the neck. Items were scattered throughout the room, and the cupboard lock was broken. Police have sent the body for a postmortem.
ADCP Gopi Nath Soni stated that during questioning of the family members, it was revealed that the deceased woman, Neelma, was ill and ran a tiffin service. She lived alone in the house.
He stated that the incident is serious. The motive for the robbery is being investigated. The forensic team has collected evidence from the scene. CCTV footage installed near the house revealed a suspicious young man wearing a shawl passing by the house at 2:33 am. Police are trying to identify him.
