Kolkata, 14 March: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday raided several locations in Sandeshkhali in connection with the ration scam case.

Sources said that apart from the ration distribution case, a Sandeshkhali-based unit involved in the export of fish products is also on the radar of the central agency. The owner of this unit is Sheikh Shahjahan. The ED officers reached the fish market of Dhamakhali in Sandeshkhali amid heavy security arrangements of CAPF officers.

A small team of ED officials went residence of Naseeruddin Mollah, a partner in the ownership of the fish market. The market where the raid and search operation took place is popular as a center of wholesale trade of prawns. Naseeruddin Mollah is also an active associate in the fish export business of Sheikh Shahjahan. He is also accused in the attack on ED and CAPF personnel in Sandeshkhali.

The ED’s current raids and search operations are based on specific input received by its officials that a major part of the ill-gotten gains in the ration distribution case was invested in fish-trading businesses owned by Shahjahan. In the case of attacking ED and CAPF officers, Shahjahan will be produced in the District Court, from where an application will be made to take him into custody.
