New Delhi, 7 August: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued the notification for the Vice-Presidential election 2025. The dates for nomination, scrutiny, withdrawal of nomination and voting have already been announced. If there is more than one candidate, voting will be held on September 9. With the notification, the nomination process has started, which will continue till August 21.
The Commission has issued a notification under sub-sections (1) and (4) of Section 4 of the Vice-Presidential Election Act, 1952. This notification has been published in the Gazette of India today and is being republished in local languages in the state gazettes.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on August 22. Voting will be held on September 9 from 10 am to 5 pm. Counting of votes will also take place on the same day. It
is noteworthy that the Vice President also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and discharges the duties of the President in his absence.
