New Delhi: The Eletion Commission of India [ECI] late on Wednesday has issued a showcause notice to Congress Party president Rahul Gandhi for his election speech on April 23 at Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol in which he said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought a new ‘Tribal Law’ that allows police to shoot down ‘adivaasi’.

However, the EC has given Mr Gandhi 48 hours to clarify his statements.

While the EC has in its notice quoted Gandhi’s speech, “ Narendra Modi has made a new law that allows police to shoot at tribal. The law says that the tribal will be attacked, they take away your lands, your forests and then shoot tribal down”.

The EC has found Gandhi’s remark a violation of model code of conduct.
