New Delhi, 5 December: DMK MP DNV SenthilKumar made a controversial statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, saying that the BJP wins elections only in ‘gaumutra’ states.

He was referring to the Hindi heartland states and addressed these states as ‘gaumutra states’.

However, this word has been removed from the proceedings of the Lok Sabha.

Referring to the states of the Hindi belt, he said that the BJP won hugely in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh states. BJP’s strength lies primarily in winning elections in Hindi heartland states.

Senthil Kumar described BJP as a failure in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This is not the first time that Senthil Kumar has used this word for the states of the Hindi belt. The DMK MP had used this word while speaking on the National Education Policy 2022.

Drawing comparisons with Jammu and Kashmir, the DMK MP alleged that the BJP could turn south Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka into union territories to exercise ‘direct rule’.

On his statement, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said that she feels that this is an insult to Sanatani tradition. DMK will also come to know soon. The people of the country will not tolerate this kind of thinking. The public will give a befitting reply to those who try to play with the sentiments of the country.
