Dehradun, 25 September: The Uttarakhand government will celebrate the first Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Day on January 27, 2026. Suggestions have also been sought from all the District Magistrates of the state for the program outline for UCC Day. Various public awareness programs will be organized in every district to make marriage registration compulsory under UCC and to encourage people.
Secretary Home Shailesh Bagauli reviewed the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state through video conferencing with all the District Magistrates on Thursday at the Secretariat. During the meeting, the Secretary stated that the first UCC Day will be celebrated on January 27, 2026, and various public awareness programs related to the UCC will be organized in each district.
He urged all District Magistrates to raise awareness through various platforms and encourage them to register their marriages under the UCC. The Secretary also stated that after the monsoon season, UCC information should be widely disseminated at the village level and special camps should be organized. Village heads of villages that achieve 100% marriage registration should be honored. He directed all District Magistrates to work in a planned manner to ensure 100% marriage registration within the next three months.
The meeting was informed that Bageshwar (63%), Champawat (60%), Rudraprayag (58%), Pauri Garhwal (50%), Uttarkashi, and Chamoli (49%) districts are performing relatively well in marriage registration. Other districts also need to accelerate progress in this direction.
The Secretary also directed that the marriage registration process be further expedited through CSCs (Common Service Centers). At the meeting, all district magistrates provided information on the progress of UCC registrations in their respective districts and also explained the practical difficulties being faced in specific areas.
