Deepika’s JNU visit goes awry: Chhapaak fails to impress the audience,while ‘Tanhaji’ The Unsung Warrior excels at the box office

Mumbai, January ,13: Meghna Gulzar’s directorial film Chhapaak stars Deepika Padukone in the lead role has failed to impress the audience if we look at the Day 3 box office collection. The film is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who was attacked with acid at the age of 15 by a stalker , naming Naeem Khan.

However, the film has sa far witnessed below average business in the first three days in the country.

The film received full of praise from film critics but the box office collections indicates that Chhapaak is not a popular film among the masses.

Chappak, on Day 1, the film earned just Rs 4.77 crore and made Rs 6.90 crore on its second day of release. According to trade analysts, the film is doing good in the metro cities but is not receiving great response in tier-2 cities and earn Rs 7-7.50 crore on Sunday. However, overall earnings of the film is recorded 18.50 crore till now.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film cost 35 crores while 10 crores were spent on its promotions and prints. Thus, the total budget of the film is 45 crores. Chhapak has received a total of 2,160 screens. These include 1,700 screens in India and 460 screens abroad. The film will have to earn 60 crores to be a hit.

In Chhapaak, Deepika Padukone plays Malti. The film also stars Vikrant Massey, who is seen playing the role of Amol, an NGO owner who works for acid attack survivors.

The members of the Bharatiya Janata Partly (BJP) and its several supporters condemned Deepika’s visit to Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) on January 7 to show solidarity with the students who were shouting ‘Azadi’ slogans. A section of people even called for a boycott of Padukone’s film. On the other hand, the opposition parties stood by the actor and declared the film tax-free in their states. Chhapaak has been declared tax free mainly in Congress-ruled states, like Madhaya Paradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan.

Now let’s talk about the box office collection of the film ‘Tanaji: The Unsung Warrior’. On Sunday, the film saw a 30 percent jump in its earnings. The film has a business of 25–26 crores. In this way, the film has earned 60 crores in three days.

The film has received the best response in Mumbai, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan are in the lead role in the film.The film has a budget of 110 crores. While 15 crores have been spent on its promotions and prints. The film has been released on 3,880 screens in India and 660 screens abroad. ‘Tanaji’ is directed by Om Raut.
