Kolkata, March 06: Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali case, has finally been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the West Bengal Police.

For the second consecutive day on Wednesday, when the CBI team arrived to take him after the strict order of the division bench of the Calcutta High Court, the Bengal Police for the first time refused to hand him over.

After that again ED complained in the division bench. Then the court clarified that Shahjahan will have to be handed over to CBI by 4:30 pm. CBI officials along with Central forces personnel had gone to take him into custody.

After that, CBI officers kept waiting at Bengal Police Headquarters Bhawani Bhawan and the CID team took Shahjahan through the back door and reached SSKM Hospital. After medical examination there, Shahjahan was handed over to CBI at 6:45 pm. The central agency is taking him to CGO Complex, from where he will be produced in the court on Thursday.
