Cricket legend Kapil Dev set to be first Chancellor of Haryana Sports University

New Delhi, Sept.14 : To boost the promotion and active role of  various sports  under the leadership of Modi government’s idea of ‘New India’, after setting up the first National Sports University in Manipur,  former Indian cricket captain and cricketing legend Kapil Dev has been appointed as the first Chancellor of the Haryana sports University at Rai, Sonepat , Haryana sports minister Anil Vij announced on Saturday.

This is the first full-fledged sports university set up in Haryana by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) state cabinet which  was approved on July 16 this year. 

Vij in an interview to a leading print media source confirmed that the former 1983 World Cup captain had accepted his consent and had personally held talks with him. 

After the state cabinet meeting in July this year, Vij said the university would have the powers to conduct academic and training programmes in physical education and sports sciences, including sports technology and sports medicine. 

 “Courses shall include training for sports management, sports infrastructure engineering, sports psychology, sports nutrition, sports journalism and sports marketing”, added Haryana sports minister Vij.

The Sports University of Haryana would be the third sports university established by a state government in India after Swarnim Gujarat  Sports university(Gandhinagar) and Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (Chennai). 

It is noteworthy that, three years ago,  when Vij had announced that  the Sports school in Rai(Haryana)  was upgraded to a Sports University.
