Covid-19 Updates: Development works kick off amid lockdown in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, April 21: In the second phase of lockdown, development works have kicked off on the expressway projects in the state from Monday.

This will speed up development works, while unemployed workers will also get employment.

Nearly 8500 people have been provided employment through construction work of Purvanchal and Bundelkhand Expressways and Gorakhpur Link Expressways.

Above information was given by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi in a regular press conference held at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi said on Tuesday that work has started on the expressway projects. On the Purvanchal Express, 4835 labourers are present in eight packages. On an average, more than 10,000 labourers present at site. So far 42 percent work has been completed. Now it will get faster. Due to the permission of construction in rural areas, people will get employment.

He informed that work is being done in six packages in Bundelkhand Expressways. There is no load of corona case in this area so working is very convenient for labourers. At present, 2150 labourers are available. On an average there should be 6000 labourers.

“Apart from this, a package of Gorakhpur Link-Expressways is being implemented. 488 workers are on the spot. Apart from the workers, there are other staffs of a thousand in these places. Thus a total of 8500 people are employed amid lockdown,” added Awasthi.

ACS said that apart from this, 25.79 lakh labourers and destitute persons of urban and rural areas were also involved in construction work under the Labour Maintenance Scheme (LMS) of Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The amount has been paid.

He stated that 39,520 industrial units of the state have been contacted, out of which 38,919 units have paid their workers a salary of about Rs 570.15 crore.
