Covid-19: Prime Minister Modi holds high level Covid-19 meeting, directs to zeroes in on rapid tests

New Delhi, 13 June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a detailed meeting with senior ministers and officials to deal with the global pandemic novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan informed the meeting about the status and preparedness of the national level in the context of the pandemic. The meeting reviewed the situation of various states and union territories including Delhi.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took cognizance of the recommendations of the Empowered Group on the city and district wise requirements of hospital beds / isolation beds.

The PM directed the Health Ministry officials to “make an emergency plan in consultation with the States and Union Territories”.

He advised the ministry to ensure proper preparation in view of the onset of the monsoon season.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister said that it has been seen that two-thirds of the total cases are in big cities of five states. To meet this challenge, focus should be on increasing the number of tests, beds and services effectively. So that extreme handling of daily affairs can be tackled.

He said that excellent work has been done by many states, districts and cities. Its outbreak has been successfully controlled.

Prime Minister Modi discussed the current and emerging scenario of Covid-19 in the national capital.

The Prime Minister suggested that the Home Minister and Health Minister should convene an emergency meeting with the Lt. Governor, Chief Minister of Delhi in the presence of all senior officials of the Central and Delhi Governments and Municipal Corporations to plan a possible and comprehensive response to meet the challenge.

Principal Secretary to the PM, Cabinet Secretary, Health Secretary and DG ICMR were also present in the meeting.

In the meeting, Vinod Paul, Member of the Niti Aayog and Convenor of Medical Emergency Management Group, gave a detailed presentation on the current status and potential scenario of Covid-19 cases in the medium term.

It is noteworthy that 11,458 cases of Corona positive have been reported on Saturday. The total number of corona virus cases in the country now stands at 3, 08,993, including 1, 45,779 active cases, 1, 54,330 cured and 8,884 deaths. The Covid-19 recovery rate in the country is currently 49.95 percent.
