New Delhi, January 10: Congress has rejected the invitation, calling the consecration of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple a program of BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

On behalf of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Sonia Gandhi and party leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Choudhary had received invitation for the consecration program.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a statement on Wednesday, โ€œCongress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury respectfully decline the invitation which is clearly an RSS-BJP programme.โ€

Jairam Ramesh said that Congress President Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Choudhary had received invitation letters for the Shri Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha program to be held on January 22.

He said that lakhs of people have faith in Ram Desh. Religion is a personal matter. Ramesh alleged that BJP and RSS have made the construction of Ram temple a political project for years. An incompletely constructed temple is being inaugurated clearly for political gain.
