At the same time, Srinagar and some other areas of the valley received fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, which disrupted the operation of the aircraft at the airport here.

The Meteorological Department has predicted cold wave conditions in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and northern Rajasthan, while south India may receive more than normal rainfall from 14 to 28 January.

Meteorologist Dr SN Sunil Pandey of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agricultural Technology, Kanpur said on Tuesday that cold wave started coming from the mountains in North India, which increased the bone-chilling cold. The winter temperature has also increased due to the maximum temperature falling by six degrees Celsius in the last one day. Severe winter is expected in the coming four-five days. Day and night temperatures have started falling in cities like Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Unnao, Fatehpur, Aligarh, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly etc.
