Lucknow, 9 Jan: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed extortion and cheating complaint against Kanpur’s Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Vinay Pathak and others.

The FIR was lodged just days after the Uttar Pradesh government recommended a CBI investigation into the graft and extortion case brought against Pathak, former Vice Chancellor of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, and others in October.

So far, the UP Police Special Task Force (STF) has detained three people, including Pathak’s suspected partner Ajay Mishra, the owner of the Xlict firm. Officials identified the other two defendants as Mishra’s suspected collaborators, Ajay Jain and Santosh Kumar Singh.

“Pathak and his collaborators have been charged with extorting money from one David Mario Dennis, managing director of Digitex Technologic India Pvt Ltd, for authorising expenses linked to conducting examinations at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in Agra. Pathak was the officiating vice chancellor of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in Agra from January to September 2022. Dennis’ company, Digitex Technologic India Pvt Ltd, assists institutions with both pre- and post-examination work,” stated the official.

The STF has issued many notifications to Pathak over the previous two months, inviting him to join the investigation. Pathak, on the other hand, did not arrive, nor did his representation appear before the STF to explain his absence.
