Case filed against BBC under FEMA

New Delhi, 13 April: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) for irregularities in foreign funding.

Official sources said on Thursday that the central investigation agency, ED, registered a case against BBC India in connection with foreign exchange violations.

According to the information, the investigating agency has sought documents and recordings of statements from some BBC officials under the provisions of FEMA. This is the first time that such action has been taken against the BBC in India.

It is worth mentioning that in February, officials of the Income Tax Department raided the BBC office in the capital Delhi.

The officials had also examined the documents related to him in the raid. Giving an official statement on the matter, the Income Tax Department had said, they will investigate BBC in a case of FDI violation. In this connection, ED has registered a case against BBC under FEMA.
