New Delhi, 24 December: The Central Government has approved the creation of a new post of Chief of Defense Staff(CDS) related to the defence. The creation of this post was announced by the Prime Minister on August 15 from the Red Fort. This will establish better coordination between the three organs of the defence and the government. The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal to this effect in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Giving information about the decisions of the cabinet, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that it will be a four-star general. Like army chiefs, they will be given salaries and other facilities. A separate department will be created in the Ministry of Defense. However, this department will look after the subjects related to the defence and will work as the Secretary in the CDS Department.

Apart from this, the Cabinet has also given approval to the changes in the Arms Act recently passed in Parliament. Earlier, in the first country,  a person could carry three weapons but the government has changed this to one. However, at the request of some people, the government has increased the number to two during the passage of the bill in Parliament.
