Lucknow,September 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party which has sent three new members to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in last two months will  add one more to the list this month. The party has decided to field Sudhanshu Trivedi,a mechanical engineer and  a national spokesman to fill the Rajya Sabha vacancy from Uttar Pradesh.

His  victory  is a foregone conclusion .keeping the  brute party majority in  state Assembly in mind.

The vacancy has been created following the death of former finance minister Arun Jaitley on August 24 last.

The decimated opposition in the state may not put  up any one against the BJP  and he  is likely to  be elected unopposed on October 16.

It had not fielded any candidate against the party nominee Neeraj Shehar in August and the son of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar had an easy win.

Shekhar had left Samajwadi Party and joined the BJP this year. Two other members of the party,Surendra Nagar and Sanjay Seth, have also deserted it to join the saffron brigade.

They were fielded by the BJP in September and were elected unopposed too.The BJP has a huge majority in the state Assembly, providing no chance to the opposition for victory.

In the Assembly elections held in 2017 the party had bagged 312 out of 403 elective seats. Its allies,Apna Dal and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, had captured 13 others. The latter which had won four seats has broken away from the BJP.

With certain victory of the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha by–poll ,the party’s number of members  in the House from UP will go up to 14.Both the SP and the BSP are much behind with ten and four members, respectively.
