Amethi, January 8: The former Union Minister and former Amethi MP Smriti Irani’s name has been included in Amethi’s draft voter list. This move is being seen as a sign of her political and social connection with Amethi. There had long been speculation that Smriti Irani had distanced herself from Amethi, but the inclusion of her name in the voter list has put an end to these speculations. It is believed that this is a signal from the party leadership that Smriti Irani will remain active in Amethi.
In the draft voter list released by the District Election Officer, Smriti Irani’s name is included in the Medan Mawai Gram Panchayat of the Gauriganj tehsil area. She is registered in the voter list at the polling station located at Composite School Leela Tikra, Medan Mawai. A total of 666 voters are registered at this booth, of which Smriti Irani’s name is listed at number 514.
Smriti has built a house in Medan Mavai
Smriti Irani purchased 11 biswa land in Medan Mavai village in 2021. The land was registered on February 22, 2021, while on July 29, 2021, her son Zohar Irani performed the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) and laid the foundation stone for the house. After the construction was completed, Smriti Irani performed Griha Pravesh on February 22, 2024. Since then, she has been a regular visitor to Amethi.
Political experts believe that the inclusion of her name in the draft voter list is not merely a formality, but also has political implications. Smriti Irani won a historic victory from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in 2019 by defeating Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Although she faced defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, her relationship with Amethi remains unbroken.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Amethi district president, Sudhanshu Shukla, said on Thursday that Smriti Irani is a permanent resident of Amethi and her affection has always been with the workers and the public.
