Lucknow, 30 Dec: The government mansion in Lucknow’s Darul Shafa neighbourhood, where senior SP politician and former cabinet minister Azam Khan lived before his membership was revoked, has been assigned to Akash Saxena, the recently elected BJP MLA from Rampur.

The government mansion in Lucknow’s Darul Shafa neighbourhood, where senior SP politician and former cabinet minister Azam Khan lived before his membership was revoked, has been assigned to Akash Saxena, the recently elected BJP MLA from Rampur.

According to a senior official with the state property department, Saxena has been assigned house number 34B in Darul Shafa.

According to the official, Azam used to live in this house until his membership in the Legislative Assembly was cancelled after he was sentenced to three years in jail for uttering hate speeches.

The official explained that it is standard Vidhan Sabha policy to assign the house of the outgoing MLA of a seat to the newly elected MLA from that seat. If the new MLA wishes to relocate, this can be considered.

Meanwhile, in a chat, Saxena stated that he had got information about the assignment of the home to him in Lucknow. In the Rampur Sadar Assembly by-election, Saxena defeated Azam Khan’s close SP candidate Asim Raja, according to the results reported on December 8.
