Amid political crisis, another Bangladeshi leader shot in head by unknown gunmen

Dhaka, December 22: Following Sharif Osman Hadi, a student leader of the radical organization Inquilab Manch in Bangladesh, unknown assailants have now attacked National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Motaleb Sikder in Khulna district, leaving him seriously injured.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, Motaleb Sikder (42), the NCP’s Khulna division chief and central organizer of Shramik Shakti, was shot around 11:45 a.m. on Monday in the city’s Sonadanga area. He has been admitted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.

Investigating officer Animesh Mandal of the Sonadanga Model Police Station said that unknown assailants shot Sikder. Locals rescued him and rushed him to the hospital. Police were deployed at the scene upon receiving information about the incident. Further information will be shared after the investigation.

NCP Joint Member Secretary Dr. Mahmuda Mitu shared Shikdar’s photo on Facebook, writing, “Motaleb Shikdar, central organizer of the NCP’s labor force wing, was shot a short while ago. He has been taken to Khulna Medical Hospital in critical condition.”

Shikdar had been campaigning for the past several days. General elections are scheduled for February 12th next year in Bangladesh.

Earlier, on December 12, Osman Hadi, a radical student leader of the Inquilab Manch, was shot in the head by two bike-borne assailants while campaigning in Dhaka. He was taken to Singapore for treatment, where he died on December 18th. Following this, violence erupted in Bangladesh.
