Lucknow, 14 Dec: The Allahabad High Court granted an application seeking directions for the creation of a commission to investigate the Shahi Idgah mosque complex, which the Hindu petitioners say was erected on the site of Lord Krishna’s birth.

“The Court has allowed our plea for the appointment of a commission to survey the site,” the petitioners’ Advocate Ranjana Agnihotri told reporters after the court issued its judgment on Thursday.

“More information will be available after the order has been submitted,” she added.

After destroying a temple, Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb ordered the construction of the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura, which is located next to the Krishna Janmasthal, which is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

At least a dozen cases have been filed in Mathura courts by various petitioners. The call for the relocation of the mosque from the 13.77-acre compound it shares with the Katra Keshav Dev Temple is a recurrent thread in all petitions.

“The court has allowed our demand that an advocate commissioner be appointed,” said Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain to media on Thursday afternoon.

“Who will be the advocate commissioner, what the procedures will be, and will it be a three-member committee? Everything will be settled on December 18. We demanded that there be many signs and symbols in the Shahi Idgah mosque, and that an actual advocate commissioner be present to determine the actual factual position. The court has granted our request,” he continued.
