Prayagraj, December 16: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MP from Rampur Azam Khan has received a major setback from Allahabad High Court. The court has canceled the assembly membership of his son Abdullah Azam. Abdullah won the election from Swar-Tanda assembly constituency of Rampur.

The High Court Justice SP Kesharwani has given this order on the basis of Abdullah Azam contesting the election by showing wrong age. BSP candidate Nawab Kazim Ali Khan lost to Abdullah Azam in the 2017 assembly elections. Kazim Ali Khan had lodged an objection with the Election Officer at that time regarding Abdullah’s age. Kazim Ali Khan said that the minimum age of the candidate for the assembly elections should be 25 years but Abdullah was not 25 at that time. It was alleged that Abdullah contested the election by putting up fake documents. At that time, the election officer rejected the objection of Kazim Ali Khan. After this, Kazim Ali filed an election petition in the Allahabad High Court in this case.
