Idols of Hindu deities vandalised in Baghpat, police begins probe

Baghpat, October 22: Anti-social elements in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district vandalized idols of deities symbolizing the Sanatan faith. Members of the Muslim community have been blamed for the incident, which occurred in the old town during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, police informed.

According to the police, it is also alleged that some people gamble and drink alcohol near the deity idols, a claim that has been repeatedly reported to the police. Following this incident, the police are investigating the matter.

An attempt to disturb communal harmony in Baghpat district during the Diwali festival has been made. Statues of deities symbolizing the Sanatan faith are installed in the old town, and on Diwali, families worship their deities and seek their blessings. The discovery of the deity idols on Wednesday morning sparked outrage, and people rushed to the scene and informed the police about the incident. They protested and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

The police officials apprised that Upon learning of the incident, Baghpat Kotwali police and administrative officials arrived at the scene, pacified the angry crowd, and began the reinstallation of the broken deities.

Baghpat SP Suraj Kumar Rai appealed to the public to remain calm and ignore rumors.
