UP criminal carrying bounty of Rs 2.5 lakh killed in encounter

Bijnor, 12 April: A wanted criminal with a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh was killed down in an encounter here on Wednesday, injuring five policemen, sources said. According to Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, a police squad from Seohara raided infamous criminal Aditya Rana’s hideaway in Budh Napur based on intelligence obtained late Tuesday night.

According to the SP, miscreants opened fire on the police unit, which replied, injuring Rana in the shootout. The crew carried Rana to the district hospital, where he died during treatment, he added, adding that five policemen who were injured have also been taken to the same hospital and are in stable condition. According to the SP, combing efforts were ongoing to apprehend the miscreants who managed to run during the confrontation.

Rana had fled from police custody during his court appearance in August 2022, and the Lucknow director general of police had labelled him a state-level mafia and placed a reward of ?2.50 lakh on him, according to Jadaun. He stated that 43 cases were filed against Rana under severe provisions. Six of these were murder-related, while 13 were robbery-related. Aditya Rana was wanted in Bijnor, Lucknow, Shahjahanpur, Amroha, and Sambhal, among other places. According to the superintendent of police, 48 members of the gang have been identified and six have been detained.
