Kanpur, 6 Dec: After preliminary inquiry, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of police, which was formed to look into the charges against Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Irfan Solanki, determined that four of the 13 complaints received by the police were serious.

On Friday, Irfan and his brother Rizwan Solanki were sent to prison in connection with an arson investigation. The complainants have provided the police with tangible evidence to back the claims against the MLA. The police will look into these four allegations first. Cases will be filed against the MLA if the accusations are proven to be genuine.

After evading arrest for 24 days in the arson case, Irfan and his brother Rizwan surrendered to Commissioner of Police BP Jogdand on Friday morning after a case was launched at the Jajmau police station. Following that, they were imprisoned. According to SIT sources, joint commissioner of police Anand Prakash Tiwari met the SIT on Saturday. The claims in all 13 complaints were thoroughly investigated. Following an initial examination, SIT has chosen to investigate four of the thirteen allegations, deeming them to be severe in character.

These charges allege fraudulently stealing money and threatening by exploiting one’s position, as well as fraudulently extorting money in the purchase of land and demanding extortion. The police, however, did not reveal the complainants’ identities.

“A total of 13 complaints have been received, four of which are serious. In these complaints, evidence has also been provided. These instances will be investigated first,” Tiwari stated.
