75-hour cleanliness drive kicks off in UP

Lucknow, 01 December: The 75-hour cleanliness campaign which began in 750 bodies of 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, was launched from Maharana Pratap Crossing in Lucknow by Urban Development Minister AK Sharma on Thursday.

There were 740 places in Lucknow where garbage used to be dumped, out of which 110 are now left, the rest have been cleaned, said minister AK Sharma.

It has been decided to start ‘Committed: 75 districts, 75 hours, 750 bodies’ campaign from December 1 under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban, he said.

There is a plan to convert ‘Garbage Vulnerable Points’, the sensitive places of garbage collection in 750 civic bodies of the state, into clean places. These places will also be beautified after cleaning and many places will be developed as selfie points or park, said the minister.

He said, “While cleaning the garbage, we have to make others also aware to adopt cleanliness habit. Only then we can remain clean and healthy. Cleanliness is the first priority to stay healthy.”

He also thanked the civic body workers and said that all the people are continuously engaged in the cleanliness drive.

The Urban Development Minister appealed to people for participate in this programme and not to throw away the garbage from their homes, shops, establishments, but to separate dry and wet garbage and make it available to the local bodies so that this garbage can be disposed off and can be of good use.

He said our motto is ‘Our UP, Golden UP.’ He asked people to make dirty places clean and develop them as useful and memorable places. The minister directed all civic officials to eliminate identified garbage vulnerable points in all small and big cities and civic bodies of the state during a 75-hour special campaign and make people’s life and environment better.

Mayor Samyukta Bhatia, Director Urban Body Neha Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Indrajit Singh and Additional Municipal Commissioner and a large number of local residents were present in the programme.
