Lucknow: Bhagat Karad, union minister of State for Finance, on Thursday assured that Uttar Pradesh will have 500 branches of banks and similar number of ATMs by January 2024 along with 5000 bank mitra.

Karad was in the state capital to preside over the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting convened at the Bank of Baroda’s main branch, Gomti Nagar.

During the meeting, the union minister appreciated banks for their efforts in disbursing MSMEs loans.

He also asked the banks to make all out efforts to make Uttar Pradesh third largest economy of the country.

Karad also informed that in January next a loan mela will be organised in Gorakhpur to disburse Rs 51000 crore loan.

Also present at the meeting, Shiv Singh Yadav, director general, Directorate of Institutional Finance, applauded banks for achieving 123 percent target of disbursing loans to the MSME sector.

He also asked banks to organise camps for distributing loans under various schemes of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.

After the meeting, chief general manager of SBI, Sharad S Chandak extended a vote of thanks.

Later, Karad attended a credit outreach programme organised at the Urdu Academy. At the event, 30 beneficiaries were handed over cheques of loan.
