Lakhimpur Kheri, November 26: Five employees of the Irrigation Department died by drowning after a car carrying them lost control and fell into the Sharda River (Siphon) late Tuesday night in Lakhimpur district, Uttar Pradesh. While the driver was rescued in critical condition.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and directed the local administration to provide all possible assistance to the victims.ย
Padhua Police Station head Abhishek Singh stated on Wednesday that the Irrigation Department employees were returning to their place of posting at Girijapuri Barrage after attending a wedding in Lakhimpur. The driver dozed off just before Girijapuri Barrage, causing the car to lose control and plunge into the deep waters of the siphon. Hearing a loud noise, nearby residents alerted the police. Police arrived and began rescue operations. After considerable effort, the bodies of five people in the car were extricated. The injured driver was taken to the hospital. Police have taken all the bodies into custody, filled out a panchnama, and sent them for post-mortem examination. A full investigation has been launched.
He stated that Jitendra, Ghanshyam, Azimullah, Lalji, and Surendra died due to drowning. Driver Bablu was admitted to the hospital for treatment. All the deceased were employees of the Irrigation Department.ย
