41 Workers trapped in Silkyara tunnel, Uttarkashi will be evacuated in the next 3 to 4 hours, confirms NDMA

New Delhi, 28 November: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that the workers trapped in Silkyara, Uttarkashi will be evacuated in the next 3-4 hours. In this regard, NDMA member Lieutenant General (Senior) Syed Ata Hasnain gave this information in a press conference today.

Hasnain said that there are 41 people in the tunnel and many people are engaged in rescue operations, safety and security from outside. We are in no hurry.

He told that we are at 58 meters and are hoping that after 2 meters we will reach the workers. The workers trapped inside also have the same thing to say. They are hearing voices.

He told that it will take about 3 to 5 minutes for each worker trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel to come out. A facility of 30 beds is ready in the district hospital. Three NDRF teams will go into the tunnel to make evacuation arrangements. SDRF will provide support. Paramedics will also go inside the tunnel at the time of evacuation.

He told that 10 meter tunnel has been dug in 24 hours. The debris had been cut and work was going on throughout the night. Miners, experts and army engineers have succeeded in taking it up to 58 meters and the pipe has been pushed with the help of an auger machine.
