Noida, January 22: The Gautam Buddha Nagar police on Thursday arrested two more builders in connection with the death of software engineer Yuvraj, who drowned in a deep pit filled with water dug for building a basement late last Friday night in the Knowledge Park area, police said.
One builder has already been arrested in this case. The police is trying to arrest the others.
Vijay Kumar Gautam, media in-charge of Police Commissioner Mrs. Lakshmi Singh, said that the police today arrested Ravi Bansal, son of Prakash Chand, resident of Faridabad district, Haryana and Sachin Karanwal, son of Gopal Karanwal, resident of Shalimar Garden, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad.
He said that a case has been registered against them in Knowledge Park police station under sections 105, 125, 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code. He stated that software engineer Yuvraj’s car lost control late last Friday night and fell into a deep pit filled with water, dug for the construction of a basement. He died in the incident.
He stated that the police had registered a case based on the complaint of the deceased’s father. A builder, Abhay Kumar, was previously arrested in this case and has been remanded in judicial custody until January 27th. He stated that both arrested accused were presented in court today. The Police
Commissioner’s media in-charge stated that Sub-Inspector Regal Kumar filed a report in this case at Knowledge Park Police Station last night, stating that while patrolling and checking plot number SC-020/A-3, Sector 150, he discovered a large, excavated pit near the public road. According to him, it has been filled with water for many years and is quite deep.
He explained that the water had become polluted and muddy due to the prolonged stagnant water. Rainwater has also carried a lot of garbage with it, filling the pit, causing air pollution and impacting safety and health. No safety measures or signage have been installed around the pit. The pit is located very close to the road. Leaving it in this condition poses a potential threat to human life. Furthermore, the possibility of serious accidents and public unrest is increased by the possibility of an open, submerged pit near a public road.
According to them, construction management rules were not followed. Residents living nearby also reported that when the wind blows from the opposite direction, the polluted waterlogged air makes breathing difficult. Inquiring about the landowner, it was discovered that the plot was allotted to Lotus Green Construction Private Limited by the Noida Authority in 2024. Subsequently, in 2020, the plot was purchased from Lotus Green Construction Private Limited by Wiztown. Police investigations also revealed that Lotus Green Construction still holds a shareholding in the project. Abhay Kumar holds 32.20 percent, Sanjay Kumar 27.30 percent, Manish Kumar 7 percent, Achal Bohra 3.05 percent, and Nirmal Kumar (Lotus Green) holds 30 percent. He stated that these actions violate Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, Sections 24 and 43 of the Water Pollution Act, 1974, and Sections 290, 270, and 125 of the Indian Penal Code.
He stated that the police have filed a case against five people, including builders Nirmal Singh and Abhay Kumar, and are investigating the matter. A case was previously filed against both builders by the father of the deceased, Yuvraj Mehta. The police have arrested builder Abhay Kumar, while builders Nirmal Singh and others are still absconding. He stated that the police are attempting to obtain a court warrant for Nirmal Singh’s arrest.
