10 people detained over illegal religious conversion in UP

Bahraich, July 10: Ten persons, including a pastor, were detained on Monday in Nanpara for allegedly engaging in illicit religious conversions, according to police.

According to Rahul Pandey, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nanpara Pastor Baburam, is accused of persuading underprivileged people in Siddhanpurwa hamlet to convert to Christianity. Others helped him with this task.

On Sunday, ten persons, including Baburam, were detained after a complaint was filed against 19 people for unlawful conversion.

Pandey stated that efforts are being made to apprehend the other defendants. According to investigators, Baburam and his wife allegedly enticed the locals to convert to Christianity by offering to treat their illnesses, including cancer.
