Youth slits his throat inside police cell in Pratapgarh, safe, SHO suspended

Pratapgarh, October 23: A youth detained at the Manikpur police station in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh slit his throat inside the lockup. On Thursday, the blood-soaked youth was taken to AIIMS, Raebareli for treatment. Following the incident, the Superintendent of Police suspended the SHO, Manikpur. The investigation of the case has been handed over to the circle officer (CO), Kunda.

Shivam Singh (24), a resident of Jamethi village in the Manikpur police station area, was brought to the Manikpur police station for questioning in a theft case. The family alleged that the policemen took him away five days ago and were interrogating him in connection with a case.

On Thursday morning, Shivam Singh, locked in the cell, slit his throat. This caused panic in the police station. The police immediately took him to AIIMS, Raebareli for treatment. Upon receiving the information, SP Deepak Bukhar handed over the probe to the CO Kunda Amarnath and suspended Station House Officer (SHO)Deep Narayan with immediate effect.

ASP West Brijnandan Rai stated that only after the case is investigated can anything be said. The circumstances under which the sharp weapon reached him and the weapon used to slit his throat are being investigated. The injured Shivam is out of danger. However, Shivam has previously been jailed for bike theft.
